Ashes & Snow

I have been wanting to see “Ashes & Snow” for a while now. Yesterday, Jason and I finally went with our friend, Abby. Gregory Colbert’s Ashes and Snow is an ongoing project that weaves together photographic works, three 35mm films, art installations and a novel in letters. The show exhibits photographs and films he made over 14 years of expeditions to India, Egypt, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Namibia, Kenya, to name just a few countries. The photographs are huge (4 foot by 6 foot!) and printed on thick Japanese paper. The whole exhibit is breathtaking and beautiful, and I highly recommend going before it leaves Santa Monica in May.

The Museum is constructed of 152 stell cargo containers and is an amazing sight to see in and of itself.

  1. Hey Jules!
We saw this exhibit on our honeymoon. We didn’t know anything about it, but it was fabulous! The architect had a great vision using the shipping containers and sonatubes inside. What a breathtaking view down that center aisle all lit up! The pictures were phenomenal too. Our favorites were the series with the birds.
    Ciao!
